What World Will Win?

You may have heard this quote about an elder Cherokee chief teaching his grandson about life.

"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves."

"One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego."

"The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."

"This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"

The old chief simply replied, "The one you feed.”

I believe this teaching applies to the state of our world right now in significant ways. Negative behaviors by others (and ourselves), which create less-than-desirable results for humanity, contrast with a loving and kind world we know in our bones is possible.

Though it may appear that the “evil wolf” is winning, that is an illusion from which we are called to awaken.

How do we experience a joyful, peaceful, loving, hopeful, serene world? We feed that world—with our highest and best thoughts, words, and actions. That is the world we will actualize—and we are almost there. Let’s intentionally and consciously use the power of our focus to create the world that will bless us all with honor, love, and respect.
